the video offers a lot of symnetary most of the time the video will have a space in the middle with nothing appearing the effects work well for the video controversial due to the amount of stobe lights used in the video the video also has no meaning its just a normal rap song
the video offers a lot of symnetary most of the time the video will have a space in the middle with nothing appearing the effects work well for the video .
when you watch the video and listen to the beat you can tell its a hip hop song with the beat and the producing that us set behind it the beat is very slow but works well for there rapping style.
With the use in media the song was used for the french election and loads of rappers jumped on and did remixes to the song.
I picked the song because i thought it was very diffirent compared to most music videos most videos arent film live and i think it worked really well for those two because most rap videos contain sex drugs and voilience

evalution

for our latest college project for steve, we had to come up with and create a multi camera show the first show we made was a dating comedy show and the second one we made was a quiz show both shows went very well seeing the little time we had compared to other media classies in the past they had a few more weeks to prepare our first show was called Duel Date, which was a comedy dating show we came up with the idea after looking at Cilla black, blind date, now blind date being the very popular show which aired on ITV in from 1985 to 2003 in the show people that took part in the show had to take part in a series of questions and rounds and each player with the lowest score and the end of each round would be sent off and ofcourse the player who get the last answer correct got to go off with the girl off his dreams our show was the same as blind date but at the end instead of having a question round and whoever sung the best would win the girl of their dreams. The people we ahd in our show was Neil Hunt, our college lecturer we had Meri, Scott, and Connor, the college of our set the set was red with pink mixed in we had the font of our show right in the middle of the whiteboard we made the lights fourm around the whiteboard it made the set glow like it was christmas

Multiple-camera setup

Multiple-camera setup

For our latest college project for Steve, we had to look at how single Camera and Multi camera works. Multi Camera is used for a lot of shows. I found some research about single camera and a lot of shows still use it today. Some of the shows that use it today are; Malcolm in the Middle, Scrubs, The Office, Glee, Modern Family, Community, Louie, Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory. We have used Multi camera for our media show. Our show is a dating quiz show and a lot of comedy has been thrown in there. For our show we set three cameras in the middle of the set; one on the far left, one in the middle and one on the far right. In the studio we had a room on the far left with multiple TV screens for the vision mixer. The information I have learned about Multi Camera, which used three cameras was the Queen’s Messenger which was broadcasted in the year 1928. hen it comes to using Multi camera for big budget Hollywood films, sometimes they use two to three cameras to film a scene but most films film using a single camera. One of the first ever sitcoms that used multi camera was the long running series called I Love Lucy. The show in 2007 was voted by Time Magazine 100, the best show of all time. The show became so popular that they made a few spin off films. Amos 'n' Andy was a comedy show for the black community. The show ran from 1943 to 1955. With college we went to see a Multi camera show called Pointless. The show is presented by Alexander Armstrong, and co hosted by Richard Osman. The show is a quiz show, where one of the contestants has to aim to get a pointless answer. On the right hand side of the set they have a score board with a line that starts from the top, it starts from 100 and can stop anywhere. To get the questions they go around asking the general public a lot of questions and the show just flows from there. A record jackpot was won on the show on Wednesday the 21st of November. Even when you dont win on Pointless, you still win a Pointless trophy which people will love forever. After watching the show Pointless, it gave us ideas for our second Multi camera show. Our second Multi camera show was about facing your fears. For example someone who is scared of spiders, snakes, dogs and heights with people who are scared of certain foods. I feel like the second show flowed a lot better than the first one. I thought everything was a lot better prepared. I thought Abi was an excellent director. She had a clear mind on what she wanted to do and she was very serious when she needed to be, which helped us crack on with work. If you compare our second show to our first show, everything with the first show was left to the last minute and was very rushed but we managed to pull it off and people enjoyed it. For our second show I was asked to find questions on films. The questions about film could have been about anything; for example, which film in 1976 won best film or which is the best selling film of all time. That would be the film Avatar. For our fear show we looked at the show Fear Factor for some inspiration. We wanted to create our opening title squence like the Fear Factor one but that proved to be too hard, so we used our teacher Steve for the opening sequence. One thing with Multi camera, is it gives the director less control of shots but the process is a lot faster and less expensive than a single camera setup. In many Hollywood movies they use the single camera technique. In more recent times many big hollywood films use more than one camera.

Kanye West “Can’t Tell Me Nothing

Kanye West “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”
Two separate music videos accompanied "Can't Tell Me Nothing", with the first aired on television and the second made available solely online. The first music video was directed by Hype Williams and released on West's official website on May 25, 2007.
To visually complement the thematically distanced, alienated feel of the track, the video was filmed in a desert. It carries a minimal aesthetic, with scenes shot in a barren, wide-open desert landscape. For a limited time, the music video was available as a free download on the U.S. iTunes Store.
On July 25, 2007, West premiered an alternate music video for "Can't Tell Me Nothing" on his website. This version was directed by Michael Blieden and featured comedian Zach Galifianakis and folk singer-songwriter Will Oldham. West had been introduced to Galifianakis' work through his personal trainer, and eventually asked him to perform in his second video after attending one of Galifianakis' stand-up shows in Los Angeles. The unscripted, low-budget music video was filmed at Galifianakis' farm in North Carolina and features him and Oldham lip-synching to the song. The alternate video was selected by Rolling Stone as the third best music video of 2007 while Pitchfork Media cited the version as the thirtieth best music video of the decade.
With this music video it was set in the desert so when you watch the music video to this nothing really changes until the night time where you see Kanye West, rapping away with smoke appearing from the background then you see some lights in the background like stage lights for a play or a nightclub. Now to me this made no sense because if you are in the middle of the desert, stage lights aren’t going to appear out of nowhere. That is the only thing in the video to me that didn’t make sense.
The other thing I noticed about the video was Kanye West being very cocky which he is very famous for. Most of the time you have him frowning in the video with a very serious look on his face. The lyrics in the song are saying that all the bad things that are being said about him he already knows and he doesn’t really care so that is why he is saying you can’t tell him nothing because it is his life and that’s how he wants to live it.
A famous example was at the VMA awards and Taylor Swift won an award and he ran on stage telling everyone saying that Beyoncé should have won an award for the best video. That video was Single Ladies. Kanye West’s outburst caused a bit of a riot at the awards and he had to be evacuated from the building. After the incident he went quiet for 6 months and went on TV to say sorry to Taylor Swift. That is just one of the many examples that Kanye West, doesn’t care about what people think and he will do what he wants.
The song charted number 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in America which is an average entry into the chart. The single didn’t do so well in the UK charting in at 107 which is his lowest charting single in the UK to date. The song did go platinum in the USA a year later.
I found the video on YouTube, Vevo, MySpace and Kanye West.com. I think the reason the song charted so low on the chart is because it is not a club banger. It hasn’t got any cheesy lyrics about how much money he has earned or who he shot. The lyrics have a story behind them and a lot of people these days don’t like that they would rather hear about sex, drugs, money and cars which are everyday things but are talked about too much within rap music. That is why I like Kanye West, he raps about what is going on in the world. It is not just all about money. When you listen to his raps you can tell he does it from the heart. The other thing I love about him is that he doesn’t care what he says in his music and I respect him for that.

Kanye West Good Life

The music video for "Good Life" was directed by Jonas & François with animation by So-Me. The video premiered on September 11, 2007 as MTV Jams' "Jam of the Week". It features West and T-Pain performing with animated backdrops and often mouthing the words of the song lyrics, which appear in large letters. The version of the song used in the video contains an additional twenty-three second intro that the album version does not have. The video also features rapper/model LoLa Monroe.
The video has reached #4 so far on VH1's VSpot Top 20 Countdown. It ranked #40 on VH1's "Top 40 Videos of 2007." The video was the recipient of several awards nominations, winning "Best Hip-Hop Video" at the BET Hip Hop Awards and "Best Special Effects in a Video" at the MTV Video Music Awards.
The music video for this song once again is very well done but you wouldn’t expect anything less when it comes to Kanye West. He is a master when it comes to art and how things look in his music videos. Throughout the song Kanye West and T Pain remain two black and white figures and the models that also appear in the video remain black and white figures. All the way through the video little moments happen and when these moments seem to happen they appear in colour with whoever is rapping or singing remaining in black and white. Most of the time the song changes from a white back ground to a black background. The white background is used for most of the video but towards the end of the video a black background appears and is used until the video ends. When some of the colours came into the video they were very bright. I found colours were used a lot when they had a subtitled sequence. The five colours I noticed throughout the video were red, pink, green, yellow, light blue and dark blue.
Another key thing I noticed in the video is that there is a CD that Kanye West has in his hands and on the front cover there is a picture of a teddy bear that has passed his graduation. Now any true Kanye West fan knows that the bear in the video is the one used on the front cover of his album titled Graduation. He also used teddy bears on his first two albums titled The College Dropout, Late Registration, There for Graduation being the final in the series.
The only thing that puts me off about the song is T Pain. I am not a big fan of him at all. He uses auto tune all the time so I don’t know when I listen to him if he has talent or not because he has never done a song without auto tune. This makes me wonder what is so special about him and why do rappers use him on hooks on their songs.
The song was very popular in America and on the Billboard Hot 100 it came in on number 7. The song sold 1 million copies in America and went platinum. The song didn’t do so well in the UK and charted at number 23.
The song on YouTube has been watched 29,880,114 times which is pretty good seeing as the song came out in 2007. The song on YouTube also has 36,835 likes and  914 dislikes which is very good seeing as the video has been out for 5 years. I found the video on YouTube, Daily Motion, Vevo, MySpace and Kanye West.com.
If there was one thing I could change about the video I would get rid of T Pain and actually use someone who has a better voice and can actually sing. Probably someone like Ne Yo, because in 2007 Ne Yo was at the height of his popularity or maybe even Rihanna she has a good voice. But then I ask myself if it would have worked if a female singer worked on the hook of the song. It would have been interesting to see because Rihanna is getting more and more popular and at that time she was just about to become really famous with the song Umbrella.

Kanye West Niggas in Paris

On December 13, 2011, after their last Los Angeles stop at Staples Centre on their Watch the Throne Tour, Jay-Z announced that the live performance would be used for the song's music video.
The video was released on February 9, 2012 through VEVO and was directed by Kanye West himself, who produced strobe light effects. The video takes place live and also there are shapes of flashing lights, signs from the songs, lions, panthers and a church (the Notre Dame in Paris). After West raps "Got my niggas in Paris, and they going gorillas", the crowd gets on their feet while West stops and shows the scene of Will Ferrell walking on the treadmill in the film Blades of Glory.
The music video for Niggas in Paris is very controversial with certain people because the video goes over the limit of how many strobe lights can be used in a music video. This caused many people to complain. The music video is very rarely shown on television due to the effect of what might happen as some people could have a seizure and die. The video is very fancy there is never one fixed shot. It is moving every second. One minute you see Jay z and Kanye West rap then the camera moves to someone in the crowd then random images start popping up in the video, including Will Ferrell from the film Blades of Glory.
The video has been watched on YouTube’s VEVO 39,129,287 times. The video has 174,051 likes and 12,858 dislikes. The song charted on the American billboard top 100 at number 5, which is very good for a rap single these days. On the UK singles chart it charted in at number 10. The song in the USA has sold over 2 million copies and in Canada the song sold over 1 million copies. The single also did very well overseas. I found the video on YouTube, VEVO, Kanye West fan site and Daily Motion. You can find the song on his album Watch The Throne.

Kanye West Champion

The music video for "Champion" was directed by NEON. The Olympic-themed music video revolves around a puppet version of Kanye West participating in the 100 m sprint in the Unified Games. After receiving permission to race thanks to majority vote on live "K-Span" television broadcast, the scene transits to the starting line, where flashbacks display the extensive training the puppet undertook to get where he is. The race commences and nearing the finishing line, the puppet is able to pass the other runners and emerge victorious. The video was filmed at Adolfo Camarillo High School in Camarillo, California. In the video Kanye West, is the only puppet playing in the race everyone else is human which I think it’s clever because it makes the audiences life when you watch a Kanye West music video you can tell he has a very big ego which is good in rap music it gives him edge over other rappers the video starts off where Kanye West is sitting in a meeting with the hosts of the games then after they talk it goes straight into the action the lyrics in the song mean Kanye West, is telling the world that he is the champion in anything he does so for example because he is a rapper he is telling people that he is the champion of rap the song is very short and only comes in at 2.27 the song was never released as a single but when the album the graduation dropped which the song was on it became very popular with listeners so Kanye West, decided to make a video just for the fans when it came to finding the video for the song it became quite difficult the video was nowhere to be seen on YouTube, MySpace, Vevo or Daily Motion. I found the video on two sites. The first site was Kanye West.com which is his main website for his fans. On that website you can watch every video he has made, find out when he is doing concerts, buy t shirts and listen to a 20 second sample of songs from his albums. The site also tells you when a new single from Kanye West will be released and when he will release a new album. The other site I found the video on was ebaumsworld.com this site usually puts on stupid videos of famous people falling over and hurting themselves. After the video was released the song charted on the billboard pop 100 at number 94. On billboard pop you can only get the song if you buy the album Graduation and you can also buy the song on iTunes. I think the song is very underrated and should have been released as a single but Kanye West did release 4 other singles from that album which were strong so in a way I can imagine the song falling off the charts very quickly. The other singles that were released for the album were Stronger, Can’t tell me nothing, Good Life and Flashing Lights. Even though the album and the song came out in 2007 the music video was released in 2008. The reason Kanye West did not appear in the video was because at the time he was depressed with the recent passing of his mother and he was working on an album of love songs

Kanye West - Diamonds from Sierra Leone

The music video for "Diamonds from Sierra Leone" was directed by Hype Williams and shot entirely in black and white. It was filmed on location in Prague, the capital city of the Czech Republic. West was fascinated by the architecture found in the capital and felt its sculptures, cathedrals, and stone pavements emitted the timeless feel of "Diamonds".  The video illustrates the topics West would later touch on within the remix of the song, as it features visuals of young African children digging away in mines under the careful watch of their wardens. The images are juxtaposed with scenes of wealthy Westerners shopping in boutiques and trying on jewellery. The music video ends with text that reads, "Please purchase conflict-free diamonds”.
The whole video is very clever as it is filmed in black and white so you get a cold shiver down your back when you watch it. It is almost like some of the nasty scenes in Schindlers List, which throughout the whole film is in black and white. Just before the music starts in the video there is a subtitled intro saying “Little is known of Sierra Leone and how it connects to the diamonds we own”. Then the video starts to play and subtitles are shown saying
“we work in the Diamond Rivers. From sunrise to sunset. Under the watchful eyes of soldiers. Every day we fear for our lives. Some of us were enslaved by rebels. And forced to kill our own families for Diamonds. We are the children of the blood diamonds”.
The music video is one of the few music videos that I know of that have credits at the end of the video. As the credits are rolling down in the video you see Kanye West, walking off in the background. To me when he was walking off it looked like a chapter in his life was ending because in the video you see him driving a car into a jewel store and you see children running out helping Kanye him get on his feet then you see them running off heading towards a church. Kanye West, must think is a safe place for the children that is why I thought a chapter in his life was complete because you feel he has finally done something good in his life. The song went gold in America. I think the reason for this is the song is not a club banger it actually has a message to give to people but now with the current generation we are in, people want club bangers with awful lyrics that mean nothing and are not important to their word. The song came in to the chart at 43 but the song was a bigger hit in the United Kingdom. It came in to the chart at number 8. I think the reason for this is that everyone knows that Kanye West is a producer who samples other peoples beats. For this song in the background when he stops rapping you hear Shirley Bassey vocals. The original song which was sung by her was used for the James bond song Diamonds Are Forever in 1971. I found the song on YouTube, MySpace, Vevo and Daily Motion. On YouTube the video has been watched  7,163,895 times by the public. The video was released in 2005 but uploaded onto YouTube in 2009 by Kanye West. Vevo channel the video also has  16,626 likes and 406 dislikes with some of the comments I have read about the video a lot of them don’t seem to talk about the video. Most of the comments say “ah man I miss this Kanye West”, “it’s a shame that he sold out”. Now as a Kanye West fan I don’t think he has sold out, I think he is getting better and better with each album that he makes but that is just my opinion. The song got so popular in the United Kingdom that they made a remix featuring Jay Z. The song proved even more popular than the original but no video was made. Critics gave Jay z’s verse very good reviews. With all the music videos I have looked at this one is one of my favourites

Kanye West Stronger

The music video for "Stronger" was directed by Hype Williams and shot over nine days in Japan. It includes shots filmed in Aoyama-based clothing store A Bathing Ape as well as Harajuku clothing store Billionaire Boys Club/Ice Cream. The video took over three months to complete. West first premiered a rough cut at the Tribeca Studios in New York City on June 19, 2007. It made its public premiere on June 26, 2007, on MTV Germany's TRL. The video was also shown on the BET countdown show 106 & Park on June 28, 2007. The video features appearances by singer and model Cassie Ventura, a real-life Japanese motorcycle gang, and the two principal actors from the film Daft Punk's Electroma dressed as Daft Punk. The video also features multiple scenes which pay homage to the 1988 anime film Akira. These include the light effects on the motorbikes, the hospital scenes and West being scanned by machines. Both West and Williams had originally planned to integrate scenes from the film into the video. West also wears a pair of Alain Mikli sunglasses, which he requested from the designer specifically for the video. The sunglasses have since become a signature of West, who for a period of time often donned them during performances. The video was nominated for two 2007 MTV Video Music Awards for Video of the Year and Best Editing in a Video. It won Best Hip-Hop Video at the BET Hip-Hop Awards as well as Best Video at the MOBO Awards. The first thing that came to my mind when I watched this video was, god they had a big budget! It is one of the most expensive videos that I have ever seen. The other thing I noticed, was it did not have a story that made sense. The video starts off with a flashing light. I think they were trying to tell the audience that Kanye West has been born into the world, or that a new life has been created. That is what I think. Then the audience enters a portal where Kanye West is sleeping, waiting to be waken up by a machine. Half way through the video you see Kanye West not well in hospital. When you watch the video you can tell he is bed bound, then all of a sudden he is fighting the sickness that is in his body and he starts to walk. He is still stumbling and a nurse starts to scream and she starts to run in fear. About two seconds later a group of police come storming into the building locked and loaded. Then Kanye West starts rapping the lyrics, "and that that don’t kill me can only make me stronger." After these words are said, the police get thrown back in the elevator. What I liked about that part was when the police got thrown back into the elevator, they used slow motion for about 10 seconds. I thought the way they did it was very clever. When the song was released in 2007 it was very popular in the United States and went straight to number one. The single sold 4 million copies in the United States making it go 4x platinum. The song also went straight to number 1 in the United Kingdom. The song is now played in nightclubs across the world and at house parties. The single went gold in New Zealand and the single went platinum in Australia. In September 2011 the Billboard chart released a statement on their website that the song has now been downloaded  4,848,000 times, making it one of the most downloaded songs of all time. The video on YouTube has been watched  82,851,631 times. The video has more likes than dislikes. The video has 166,850 likes and 6,833 dislike,s proving that the song is very popular. The only sites I found the video on were Google video, YouTube Daily motion, Kanye west.com and MySpace. I think the video has not dated at all because it still looks fresh today. The special effects they used in the video are amazing and they look like they would have been used in a big Hollywood Blockbuster.

the BCS has been recording violent incidents involving knives for years. In 2007-08 the number of such incidents was just under 130,000 a year.
That is 25% down on last year, when the figure stood just shy of 173,000, and well under half the 1995 peak of 340,000. The caveat is that the BCS does not include under-16s, a significant omission which the government is considering amending.

    Research - the Departed film

For our latest project for college we have been asked to look at other ways that thriller films have been sold to the public. The film I picked is the Departed. The film won several awards, including four Oscars at the 79th Academy Awards; Best Picture, Best Director (Scorsese), Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing. Wahlberg was nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I think when a film wins a lot of awards and the film did win best picture at the Oscars, I do think that it starts to gain the attention of the viewing public because the people who are selling the film are going to put in the trailer or DVD release the awards that it has won as this will get them more money.
I think the other reason the film draws people in is because it is directed by the legend known as Martin Scorsese. People know he has directed classic movies such as Goodfellas, Casino and Taxi Driver and to draw the viewing public in even more they will put his name on the top of the poster in big letters because everybody knows who he is.
I think the other way they sold the film well was the main Hollywood actors they put in the film for example Leonardo DiCaprio known for films such as This Boy’s Life, The Basketball Diaries and Total Eclipse. The female audiences also love DiCaprio so they are selling the film well in that aspect.
Another big selling point for the film is Matt Damon as he is known for such film as The Talented Mr Ripley, The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy. The selling point again is Matt Damon is popular with the ladies.
Another big selling point for the film is that they have the legend known as Jack Nicholson in the film. He is known for such films as One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest, The Shining and Reds. Jack Nicholson will attract the older audiences to come and watch the film.
Another popular actor to add to the film is Mark Wahlberg who is very popular with young people. He is known for such films as Invincible, Max Payne and the award winning The Fighter.
Another way they sold the film was they added two more legends in the film. They are Alec Baldwin and Martin Sheen. Alec Baldwin is known for such films as Great Balls of Fire, The Hunt for Red October, The Shadow, Ghosts of Mississippi, Thomas and the Magic Rail Road, Pearl Harbour, Channel Chasers, The Aviator, Rise of the Guardians. The legend Martin Sheen is known for films such as Catch 22, The Missiles of October, The Execution of Private Slovak, Apocalypse Now, The Dead Zone, Judgment in Berlin, Gettysburg, Entertaining Angels, The Dorothy Day Story, An Act of Conscience Spawn and The Amazing Spider Man. I think if you saw all these actors on a poster than you are going to want to watch that film.
I think another strong point in the film is the plot. The plot of the film is that two men from opposite sides of the law are undercover within the Massachusetts State Police and the Irish mafia, but violence boils and blood is shed when discoveries are made, and the moles are dispatched to find out their enemy's identities. I think the strong storyline would draw people in to watch the film.
Here are some of the selling points the producers used to sell the film and also to get the film ready in time. Martin Scorsese wanted to shoot the film in Boston, where the story is set. But due to concerns on setting up production and politics, the producers chose New York City to double for Boston because of the state's 15% tax credit. The bulk of the movie was shot in New York City while a six-week shooting schedule was split in two for Boston, shooting the first half in June and the second half in August. After the success of this film, Massachusetts created a 25% tax credit for filmmaking. I think it was a smart move for the producers to do this. Some other information about what the producers did was that in the classroom scene, police academy graduation scene, and shooting range scene (all at the beginning of the film) were actually shot near the end of production. Historic Ft. Schuyler on the campus of State University of New York's Maritime College was the back drop. Again I think it was another smart move for them to save time and get the film finished quickly.
I think another big selling point for the film was that it was being released by Warner Bros. This was a smart move for Martin Scorsese because Warner Bros is one of the biggest film companies in the world and one of the most popular. However, in my opinion I do think the Departed would have been a flop or just made less money if it did not have the big Hollywood actors and massive Hollywood director. I think if the film had a low budget with an unknown director and unknown main actors, it could have been a massive flop. Also for people that didn’t know, as Warner Bros kept it quiet, the film is a remake. The original film is called Infernal Affairs. The film was made in Hong Kong. Because of the popularity of the film the Americans wanted their own version which in a way I think hurts the original film’s status in the market meaning more people are going to know about the American version than about the Hong Kong version. This is because American films always do well in the market but small films like Infernal Affairs suffer because it is not a mainstream film in any way shape or form. I also think another thing that hurts the film is Americans are not going to know the lead actors in the film so it puts them off.
There can also be a lot of advantages and disadvantages with certain media platforms. What I mean by this is some films get wide mainstream success because of the company that sells the film to the public are well known. For example I think the movie Avatar was a massive success because of the well known company that released the film. The company was 20th Century Fox known for films like Star Wars which was a massive hit, XMen which was another massive hit for them, Die Hard another massive hit, Alien which was another massive hit for them, Revenge of the Nerds which was a sleeper hit, Night at the Museum was another huge hit for them, Predator was another sleeper hit for them and later came to be a massive hit in the 90s. Another hit they had was Independence Day but I think that movie was only popular because of Will Smith because he is loved by audiences around the world, the last hit that I can think of is The Simpsons which aired on TV in 1989 and still makes seasons to this day because it is loved by audiences around the world and the movie they did of The Simpsons was an even bigger success becoming one of the highest grossing films of 2007.
The film company that made The Departed which was Warner Bros had their fair share of hits. One was The Maltese Falcon staring popular actor Humphrey Bogart and also Casablanca again starring Humphrey Bogart. Another hit they had was a film called A Streetcar Named Desire which had the popular actor at the time, Marlon Brando in the lead role. Another hit they had was the film Rebel without a Cause starring another popular actor called James Dean. Another hit they had was Bonnie and Clyde which caused some controversy about the amount of violence the film had. A sleeper hit that the film company had was a film called A Clockwork Orange which was hugely controversial because of the amount of violence that was in it.  It was banned in the United Kingdom for years. It had loads of gang violence in the film and the strong theme of rape. The title character also had a strong love for Beethoven.
Films like Saw struggle because one the lead actors is not known. No one had heard of the company before the film Saw which was Lions Gate. They are known for sleeper hits like American Psycho. The way they sold the film to the public was Lions Gate made an online game called Make a Calling with American Psycho in which players invest using fake Hollywood money in actors or films. I think this was a clever way to promote a low budget film. The massive hit for them was Saw. It made a lot of money at the cinema and even more on home video. Monster Ball was another hit for them as well as the Punisher.
Another company that was not well know was the company called Orion. The company was shut down after flop after flop and not very good marketing. Some of the films which they released are: Hoosiers which was a massive hit for them. Another one was Robocop which is now a classic. The studio was also closed down because of bankruptcy. Other films which were massive because of the film company I think are the original Mummy not the poor remake with Brendon Fraser, Spartacus and Airport.
I think the reason that Universal studios have been around as long as they have is because they always release the big summer blockbusters that young adults really want to see. Also people like action films.
One film company that I know uses the market well is the Disney Company. Founder Walt Disney founded the company in 1923 and had hits after hits. Because Disney became so popular he opened up Disneyland, Disneyworld and Disneyland Paris. Disney is an international success and is loved by audiences around the world.  Another marketing strategy that Disney uses is that they have 4 icons in the studios they are Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy and Pluto. Another selling point that Disney use is the Disney vault where they re release classics that have been loved for many years. Some of their classics are Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Make Mine Music, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, The Rescuers, The Black Cauldron, Oliver and Company, The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, A Goofy Movie, Pocahontas, Toy Story, Hercules, Mulan, A Bugs Life, Tarzan and Toy Story 2.
Other ways in which they now sell their products is to make video games for the big Hollywood movies that are coming out. All though the games are popular with younger children, critics are harsh and the games are reviewed negatively by mainstream critics. Because the games reviews are negative the games under sell. Another thing they do is that they sell their film product by giving a small toy to McDonalds and put it in the kids Happy Meal. They do this so that young kids will want to see their film or the other reason they do this is because after the kid has watched their film they will want to collect all the toys. Another that they do is to make a TV advert so kids know about the toy in the meal. In most of the adverts they say for a ‘limited time only’ so that will make them want to get the toy before it leaves the market which I think is a smart idea.
